Wednesday 7th November

Received the Brauniger Alpha MFD back from Germany today (originally bought from Deepak at MSA) . It had been sent back as they supplied a Knots calibrated version instead of mph (I can only think in old money!). This arrived at the perfect time, as I'd about reached that stage. Not too many photos today, as this was a careful measuring and slow cutting job!

Stop press - you do have to remove the windscreen to take out the front strut. I'd better remember to always carry a 2p coin with me, to twist out the quick-release fasteners. It'll add about 20 seconds to the rig/derig time!

Hours effort: 4

DSCF1084.JPG (43699 bytes) Having made a cardboard template, it's positioned and stuck to the front of the panel. As you can see, it is a very, very tight fit.
DSCF1085.JPG (56711 bytes) A rough cut with a jigsaw has removed all but the last eighth of an inch, which I will dress back with a file.
DSCF1086.JPG (65630 bytes) Went to test the panel for fit, and realised I still had the front of the pod held on with a G-clamp. This is the front fixation. There will be another through the front seat mount hole, and that bolt will go through the bottom of the panel too.
DSCF1087.JPG (39527 bytes) Here's the finished panel, with holes cut for ignition switches, master switch and starter button. The holes don't look like they line up with anything, but they have been laid out so the edges of the switches will align.
DSCF1089.JPG (55696 bytes) Finally, here's a dry fit of the panel - by which I mean nothing is wired yet.

See what I mean about the switches? The bottom ones line up with the edge of the guard on the ignition switches.

There's a nice space left on the left of the panel. I'm going to fit an ashtray there.

Isn't that EFIS the sexiest instrument you've ever seen?

Bummer of the day

Being forced to stop early, because Gary at Flylight had a moan at me for not posting yesterday's update until gone eleven. Just for you Gary, here's today's, well before nine!
