Saturday, 10th November

Two days off did me the power of good. I am enjoying the build very much, but a little break was nice!

A short while ago, I posted to the BMAA eGroup that I'd done 55 hours and expected 10 more to completion. Several days later, I've done over 25 hours more and I still have plenty of work to do. Someone emailed me to point out that when the job is 90% complete, 50% of the work remains to be done, and this is so very true!

Hours effort: 3

DSCF1090.JPG (66568 bytes) Here's the radiator, freshly sheathed in a wire mesh. This will offer protection to the fins, as the radiator is mounted in a scoop underneath the pod body. The air will enter the front of the scoop, and be forced through the radiator to exit at the bottom.
DSCF1091.JPG (68803 bytes) The old overflow pipe must be blanked off. This means it has to be tapped, and a bolt fixed in place with waterproof Loctite. In the picture, I am about to fit a nozzle to the hole. Fortunately, I spotted my mistake in time.
DSCF1092.JPG (52826 bytes) This paper template was cut out of the build manual, and is used to mark the position of the seat-mount bolt-hole. I've put the clamp back on to make sure the fibreglass is nice and tight when I drill the hole.
DSCF1094.JPG (47411 bytes) Trim applied around wheel hole, and a hole drilled in the bottom of the pod for the radio aerial.
DSCF1095.JPG (45383 bytes) Here's the ground-plane for the radio aerial, stuck in place on the inside of the pod.
DSCF1096.JPG (60141 bytes) The prop has been fitted now, and the pitch set up using the supplied gauge.

Prop tape has been applied to the leading edge of the blades.

DSCF1097.JPG (32476 bytes) I finally got around to fitting the Pitot. It will have a short piece of plastic tube over it once the resin has set.

Bummer of the day

Not being able to find my tap and die set.

I took a quick trip to the local motor spares shop, and explained my problem. The guy said they didn't have any, but if I popped back the following morning, he'd bring his in to lend to me. Another top bloke!
