Hello again after my little enforced break.
The replacement thermocouple from Brauniger arrived during the week, so I
ripped out the loom and replaced the wrong cable with the right one. As I
suspected, this took ages - however, I was able to do it without removing the
pod. I did have to unbolt it at one side, but that gave me just enough room to
get the job done.
The exhaust manifold and tank tie-down strap also arrived from Flylight
during the week, so there's nothing holding me back anymore!
Hours effort: 6
 |
Here's the exhaust manifold mated with the 90 degree elbow,
which in turn connects to the baffle box. Notice the way the loops for the
retaining springs line up nicely. |
 |
Notice in this picture, how the spring loops no longer line
up.
You guessed it - this is the correct way round for the bracket, so it
seems the loops have been welded in the wrong places!
I'm going to try and fit it like this anyway - I'll see if the springs
will stretch the extra little bit. |
 |
The exhaust manifold is in place, and the twin EGT probes
and the single CHT probe have now been fitted.
MSA (suppliers of the EFIS) told me I'd have to pay a restocking fee to
change the water temp probe (wrong thread), as it was the one I ordered.
Well, on the order I said 'I believe this is what I need.....please
confirm', and I'd view that as a request for information, not an
instruction. Also, I've been told that the 582 only has one size hole, and
I did specify it was for a 582.
We're only talking a few quid here - but it's the principle of the
thing! |
 |
The battery has gone in and been connected. Be warned, you
have to push it really hard to get it into the gap in the tank, and it
sits about an inch above the keel when it is in as far as it will
go.
The problem I had was that the earth lead is too short. I had to undo
every cable-tie on the strap and pull it as hard as I could, then bend the
connector to 90 degrees. It just reached! |
 |
I'm going round the plane finishing off all the lttle bits
and pieces now.
The far left of the fuel tap assembly had another little nozzle
sticking out of it - what for, I have no idea! I found that the blanking
plug from the CHT probe hole was a perfect fit! |
 |
It took about 2 hours to double-check all wiring and connect
to the EFIS, but I can now proudly announce the engine turns when you
press the big red button, the EFIS lights up and the radio works.
Sadly, I forgot to fit the switch for the rear ejector seat, but I'm
going to have to do a minor mod for that anyway. ;-D
Haven't fitted the ashtray yet, as I'm considering a drinks holder
instead. |
Bummer of the day
- Discovering the exhaust brackets for the springs were welded on back to
front.
- Being convinced the battery wasn't going to fit into the hole.
