Sunday, 7th Aril, 2002Due to the fact that I have fitted a fuel flow meter, it was doubly important to check the fuel flow - even though this is part of the normal sign-off. Met John Whelan, my inspector, down at the Frieze Farm strip and performed some minor mayhem on the fuel line 'twixt flow meter and carb in order to introduce a Y-pipe. The idea is that you run the lump at about 3.5k rpm, and measure the run-off from the Y-pipe. We achieved 32 litres per hour, which is twice what the engine needs. Bear in mind the engine was running at the time, and you'll see the fuel system is running at 300% of the required rate....which is nice! That's the final piece of the puzzle, folks. All I have to do now is get the paperwork in the post to the BMAA, then hie me unto Sywell aerodrome, clutching a crumpled permit-to-test in my grubby fist, so that Paul Sywell can take my baby's cherry! So, not long now before you have to think "Christ, that bloody nutter Elsbury is airborne now - perhaps I'll leave my plane in the hanger today". Bummer of the dayYou're kidding, right? |
