Tuesday 23rd October

The day started with me searching the local shops for the various different grades of Loctite thread-lock and adhesive called for by the build plans. Basically, shops sell just one flavour of Loctite, so I had to ring Flylight. They're putting a pack together for me containing every type I need. Personally, I think this should be included in the kit - especially as it cannot be bought in the shops!

Anyway, I've had to continue the build without actually tightening any nuts for now. This is because they'll all have to come off again to be Loctite'd, and once a Nylock nut has been removed, it must be thrown away and replaced. Therefore, all nuts are currently only finger tight!

Time spent on the build: 5 hours

DSCF0974a.JPG (51101 bytes) The mudflap is riveted to the mudguard, and it's the first time I've ever riveted anything in my life. Rest assured, I'll be doing loads more riveting now I know how easy it is, and how tidy the final result. I'll never have to sew on a button again!
DSCF0975.JPG (67231 bytes) Assembling the front forks, with the cute little shock absorbers.
DSCF0976.JPG (83158 bytes) and then fitting the pedals. The left pedal will be the brake, and it can be locked on. The right will be the throttle. The whole front fork assembly will pivot on the frame, so steering on the ground is done with the feet.
DSCF0977.JPG (72682 bytes) This is the bracket which will connect the wing to the trike. That orange wire is a safety strap which loops around the wing keel, so even if the hang bolt breaks the trike and wing stay together. The wire runs down the inside of the pole and is fixed at the bottom, so it'll handle the pole breaking too.
DSCF0978.JPG (54676 bytes) The lower seat mounting bracket mounted on the trike keel
DSCF0979.JPG (72188 bytes) The upper seat mounting bracket and engine mount are now in place too.
DSCF0981.JPG (75998 bytes) I did a loose fit of the seat frame just to see how it looks. It's got to come out again, as the fuel tank must be mounted first, and I can't do that until I've Loctited-up all the bolts!

Bummer of the day

Discovering I am totally unable to get the tyres on to the wheels. The poxy little tyre levers I have just aren't man enough for the job. A quick visit to the local Tyre and Exhaust centre is called for tomorrow!
