Saturday 27th October

Rang my Inspector, John Whelan, first thing today, and arranged for him to visit and see the rolling chassis tomorrow morning. That done, it's time to start on the wing.

Hours effort today: 5

DSCF0995a.JPG (69806 bytes) I couldn't resist putting the seats in. They've got to come out again for the inspection, but I believe my velcro skills are equal to the task.
DSCF0997a.JPG (53889 bytes) Riveting the engine mounts in place.

This shot demonstrates I can do two things at the same time: Rivet and take photographs.

I felt it important to prove there is actually human intervention in this build, as the photographs could easily lead one to believe it is being carried out by the 'little people'.

DSCF0998a.JPG (69641 bytes) Here's the wing leading edges attached to the keel, and the cross struts on their sliding leather harness.
DSCF0999a.JPG (71713 bytes) See? Not a trestle in sight! One ladder and one workmate have done me sterling service today.
DSCF1000a.JPG (51488 bytes) Here's a close up of the pivot mechanism at the ball and socket joint on the cross struts.
DSCF1001a.JPG (58400 bytes) A close up of the leading edge to keel bracket, showing the channel underneath into which the swan neck will fit, connecting the front flying wires to support the control bar.
DSCF1002a.JPG (64218 bytes) Here's the join of the cross-struts to the leading edges, and a beautifully engineered set of brackets they are too!

Those have to be the biggest cross struts in the world too! Flying wires attached - they will connect to the ends of the control bar.

DSCF1003a.JPG (45206 bytes) Here's the hang bracket in place, initially set to it's middle position, and the kingpost mount in place too.

That's the wing finished to the next inspection point - the inspector will be surprised tomorrow morning - he just thinks he's doing the rolling chassis.

Bummer of the day

Realising I had one leading edge on back to front, when I went to fit the cross strut hinge brackets. My fault for not RTFMing properly!
